Acute Articular Rheumatism
DefinitionDefinition of Acute Articular Rheumatism It is defined as a disorder in which there are medical problems which affect the joints and connective tissues. It is also known as the rheumatism. It is a non specific term. The study which deals with the therauptic interventions in such disorders is known as the rheumatology. The term rheumatism is used in the colloquial speech and historical contexts. It is no longer used in the medical terminology. It is also known as the fibro myalgia in some countries. It covers different problems which ascribe to the symptoms of rheumatism. The people which deal with the rheumatism focus on arthritis. The non auricular rheumatism is also known as the soft tissue rheumatism in which one can observe the discomfort and difficulty. It is also known as the regional pain syndrome. In the case of MeSH it refers to the connective tissue disorder. The arthritis and rheumatism cover multiple conditions. The form of rheumatoid arthritis is known as the palindromic rheumatism. SymptomsSymptoms of Acute Articular Rheumatism It includes the pain in the back and neck, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatic fever, tenosynovitis, capsulitis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatic fever, bursitis, temporal arteritis and poly myalgia rheumatic. Their epidemiology is different but they have certain common characters like the cause of chronic pain and difficulty in the treatment. They are quite common. CausesCauses of Acute Articular Rheumatism There has long been said to be a link between "rheumatic" pain and the weather. There appears to be no firm evidence in favour or against; a 1995 questionnaire given to 557 people by A. Naser and others at the Brigham and Women's Hospital's Pain Management Center concludes that "changes in barometric pressure are the main link between weather and pain. Low pressure is generally associated with cold, wet weather and an increase in pain. DiagnosisDiagnosis of Acute Articular Rheumatism "Rheumatism of the back, or lumbago, is sometimes mistaken for disease of the kidney or spinal cord; but if we recollect that, in disease of the kidney, we will usually have retraction and pain in the testicle, change in the character of the urine secreted, and more or less constitutional disturbance peculiar to suppression of the urine, and that in disease of the spinal cord to this extent, we would have disturbance of all the nerves given off below, we will not readily make the mistake. "Neuralgia is very frequently confounded with rheumatism, and it is sometimes almost impossible to distinguish them; but in a majority of cases, the pain, being exquisitely sharp, tearing or lancinating, and in the course of a nerve, will enable us to see that it is neuralgia." Gout usually occurs in the smaller joints, preferably the great toe; then the age, habits, and history of onset will help us in recognizing the one from the other. We can distinguish rheumatism from arthritis, by the history of pyemia, and the inflammation terminating in suppuration, and the more or less destruction of the joint. TreatmentTreatment of Acute Articular Rheumatism It includes the traditional herbal remedies. There are modern medicines which are used conventionally and complementary. It recognizes the different rheumatic disorders with different causes and different treatments. The initial therapy includes the use of analgesics like paracetamol, ibuprofen along with the use of NSAIDs. One can also go for stronger analgesics.
