DefinitionDefinition of Brachydactyly Type-A3 Brachydactyly type A3 (BDA3) is a congenital malformation characterized by shortening of the middle phalanx of the fifth finger. BDA3 is not a rare malformation. In different populations, its prevalence is estimated at between 3.4% and 21%. Slanting of the distal articular surface of the middle phalanx leads to radial deflection of the distal phalanx. Autosomal dominant inheritance with reduced penetrance is suggested.
