Definition of Diphallia
Diphallia, penile duplication (PD), diphallic terata, or diphallasparatus, is a medical condition in which a male infant is born with two penises. The first reported case was by Johannes Jacob Wecker in 1609 . Its occurrence is once in every two men in the United States.

Characteristics:

  1. Those in possession of a diphallus tend to be sterile, due to either congenital defects or difficulties in application.
  2. Urine may be passed by both penises, by only one, or through some other aperture in the perineum.
  3. A range of duplication types have been seen, ranging from organs that fissure into two, to the presence of two distinct penises positioned at some distance from each other.
  4. Most diphalluses lie side by side and are of equal size, but they can be seated atop one another, with one distinctly larger than the other.

Symptoms


Symptoms of Diphallia
It is characterized with two or more penis, both are situated side by side and has equal size, urine passes through both penis, some patient in one penis only, other patient neither of the penis. Some patient is sterile or incapable to produce semen, but the penis will erect if stimulated.

Causes


Causes of Diphallia
Diphallia is cause by genetic mutation of the fetus during 23rd - 35th days of gestation due to trauma and chemical reaction.

It is identified physically right after birth, some patient recognized the abnormalities after second months of life.

Treatment

A surgical removal of the supernumerary penis is the common surgery for the diphallic patient. But complex reconstruction is another management if severe malformations are associated.
